DIARY OF A BLACK VEGAN - vol #3 ..
IT WAS A PATH OF AWARENESS NOT DONE FOR POLITICAL REASONS OR BECAUSE IT WAS CUTE OR FEATURED ON OPRAH WINFREY..loL SORRY IT MADE THE MOST SENSE AND I LISTEN TO MY SOUL ... ITS THE ULTIMATE STEP TOWARDS NATURE (DAMN MY RAP CAREER IS RUINED IF ANY ONE READS THIS : ) IT WAS NOT ABRUPT OR EVEN CONTEMPLATED...NO I DONT MISS CHICKEN OR FISH... I CRAVE WHAT YOU PUT ON THEM SAUCES . I MAKE CURRY TOFU, JERK TOFU , MOCK FISH FROM TOFU , INDIAN CHIC PEAS , PEANUT THAI NOODLES, GREENS , WHIPPED YAMS , VEGAN MAC AND SOYCHEESE (ONLY TOFUTTI BRAND) THE OTHER BRANDS DO NOT MELT , PIZZA , EVERY VARIATION OF A SALAD YOU CAN IMAGINE...
I MADE THE DISH ABOVE ON A BREAK FROM WRITING SONGS IN THE BRONX LAST DECEMBER... ALOT OF WHERE I AM AT DEPENDS UPON WHERE IM AT IF IM IN THE MIDWEST I HIT THE ETHNIC SPOTS BUT ARE USUALLY MORE INCLINED TO EAT SOUL ADAPTATIONS OF TRADITIONAL SOUL FOOD ( GOT SOME CORN AND GREEN BEANS COOKING NOW ) THE WONDERFUL THING ABOUT GREEN BEENS IS THAT THEY ARE HIGH IN FIBER AND CAN BE EATEN WITHOUT LIMIT ......
BREAKFAST IS PROLLY MY FAVORITE MEAL THOUGH EVEN THOUGH I USUALLY DONT GET TO TAKE THE TIME EXCEPT FOR THE WEEKENDS OR IF I AM GIGGING ON THE ROAD AND FIND A REAL PEACE VEGAN SPOT TO EAT AT...FYI - ANY PLACE WHERE THERE ARE MOUNTAINS THERE IS VEGAN FOOD IN ABUNDANCE ! BUT I DIGRESS I AM AMAZED AT THE REACTIONS OF WALKING INTO OR SHOPPING IN WHOLE FOOD MARKETS.. THE LOOKS OF LIBERALS CAN BE SO TRANSPARENT AT TIMES.. THE PEOPLE THAT CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS CONSIDER TO BE INFIDELS BEAR THE SAME TRAITS ..THEY FOLLOW YOU AROUND JUST LIKE A REGULAR STORE.. TRY TO EDUCATE YOU ( NOT KNOWING THAT I AM A SCIENTIST AND HAVE STUDIED HEALTH FOR 15 YEARS ) ALL OUT OF THE AMAZEMENT OF MEETING A NEGRO-VEGAN ?? HA THAT SOUNDED FUNNY NEGRO VEGAN...IM A LEAVE YOU ON THAT ONE CAUSE I CANT STOP LEAVING.. JOHN FORTE - FREE 12/22/08 PARDONED BY G W BUSH !
In the first term, Bush (like most presidents before him) granted the highest number of pardons and commutations (20) in the fourth and last year.
In Bush's second term, the most active year to date is the second year, with 44 pardons and 1 commutation of sentence. For Bush to grant the highest number of pardons and commutations in the fourth year of the second term, we would have to see at least 13 additional acts of clemency. With the month of December still ahead, it seems reasonable to expect Bush will top the mark set in the second year of the term.
Even with this last round of pardons, December remains Bush's most prolific month for pardons and commutations (see updated chart here).
The geographic trends we noted in a previous post have become more stark. Three more pardons have been granted from the State of Texas, extending its lead over every other state (at 20 pardons). Florida remains in second (with 14). Georgia picks up one, but remains in third (with 11). In contrast, only 9 pardons have come from California and only 1 has come from the State of New York.
Finally, we cannot help but note that one of the commutations that Bush granted today went to John Forte, who has been on our Pardon Watch List for some time now. We recently noted that the Grammy-winning African American recording artist, who maintained his innocence in the face of a drug trafficking charge, was smacked with a mandatory sentence of 14 years. His clemency application was supported by singer/songwriter Carly Simon.

Do you take simplicity for granted ??
Caregivers to orphans in Katolo utilize irrigation techniques to grow vegetables (foreground) and maize (background).
The buzz of the news is that the nation is in Financial Crisis , the thing is even many impoverished people in america are better off than most third world nations. Colonialism , global gentrification and capitalism run a muck and it takes a bunch of wealthy peoples purses or wallets being touched by financial oppression for it to be an issue. Many people in Americas ghettos have never know anything but poverty so the current bank crisis really means nothing to them . By in large i think most people take clean water , and a non leaking roof for granted . ( A family in Myanmar Southeast Asia After cyclone )
When hurricane Ike hit , it was a different type of hurricane it came further north and knocked power out throughout many states for days and weeks for others . I was at my house in the midwest at the time and attemped to buy food but could not due to the power shortages the apporoval could not be completed ... Hmm what would i do if that was indefinite. If the banks power is out or the office that the approval comes from how would i get money. That just about puts me on the playing field of any tribal , rural or indigenous person without resources. Was is stressed ?? yeah , knowing that dough was in that account. Immediately i thought about my father talking about our older Relatives down south . Ex slave / crow indian country people that did not trust banks. I started seeing some chagrin in the thought or recollection of my pops telling me how they kept there money barried in cans under houses and on land. Why do we / i take such things for granted ?? one word COMFORT we get comfortable and are so self focused that we almost cant help ourselves let alone anyone else.
Many people are looking for one person to come along and do it .So where does change begin ? With ourselves , The idea of rebuilding our thought process..., the reforming and reconditioning of mental habits is the starting place . The planet adjusts daily it goes thru cycles every few thousand years , light always finds its way thru darkness . When water comes down a hill of trees it does'nt stop at the tree it wraps around it in another path. We gotta change our path to add on.....Thats where miricales begin

NY - HIP HOP HEADS GO GREEN ( SOLAR POWERED FESTIVAL)
It's mixed by rising New York DJ sensation Getlive and hosted by Lyricist Lounge co-founder and Current TV producer Ant Marshall. It also features original cover art by Fresh Daily of AOK.
It's not only a classic summer mixtape but a means to bring awareness to CITYSOL and the efforts of the SOLAR 1 organization. With the energy crisis in full swing and global warming facing us everyday we all must work to get information about solar power as an alternative resource. This mix is our effort to continue to learn more and then pass along the message. Plus how many mixtapes you hear sampling RALPH NADER breaking down why solar power is the answer?!

DIARY OF A BLACK VEGAN..?? VOL#1
At first glance the heading above may seem crass (people fear BLACK when a black man uses the word) but see i am used to seeing the word "BLACK" HMMM i wonder why ? LOL . See i really even try to stay away from the topic. Even as i try to stay low key about all aspects of my life this one is one that would really be rediculous to try and hide. See the first thing that i have to write is an asspect of my mental personality . I live almost completely within logic . This is hard to consume by alot of people , as mystery and whatever tradition that society considers to be truth finds its way to the trash can in my pysche if it makes no sense. Sometimes when i am eating people see my plate and see that there is no meat on it . Then when i am asked about it and say " I AM VEGAN " i am usually greated with crazy questions like . "HOW DO YOU GET NUTRITION " ha ha ... answer ? i eat everything you eat minus the dead carcus and dairy...
I personally did not become vegan , IT BECAME ME . My parents come from Tennessee and left there in '61' well before my birth. My grandmother made everything herself and had two gardens one all greens and one mixed with variaties of vegetables. I used to go stay with her for two weeks every summer, and it was a requirement to get up at 8:00 am before it got real hot to aid in the garden work (this was a small seed in my own dietary evolution (fresh grown chemical free food just taste different) . Its was murder for me because i did not and could not fathom the beauty of nature at that age childhood - age 16 (read side bar i am a CITY BOY) . Everything we ate there came from that garden. She only went to the store for eggs, meat, milk, soda etc.. everything else came from there she had apple and peach trees in the yard as well. She made jam from scratch for toast or sandwichs. Those summer weeks had a heavy impact on my future love of nature...
Its incredible cause people think your experience is alot different but its not ! I still get followed when shopping in whole food markets. I get spoken to as if i must be new to this lifestyle. THe crazy thing is the condescending store attendants usally shrink once i engage in debate ( i have been this for years ) . I am not sensitive by any means i go to get what i gotta get. I am usually greeted with the " oh wow im suprised that you are here " look. When i am at my spot in New York i go all the way to Brooklyn from the bronx to prospect park just to go to Imhoteps Vegan Restaraunt/Store 734 Nostrand Ave (between prospect pl and park pl)Phone: 718-493-235
just to be amongst a more holistic shopping experience.I mean other black Vegans are glad to see you, this is still necessary and desired to be welcomed even though A Black Vegan may feel otherwise normally. When in the midwest i go to the biggest whole foods market as they really dont say much to you because of the size of the place. Persecution is regular until there are national publisized news coverage see my previous ENCINO CaLIFORNIA posting with video of on Downed Cow meat. click this link to it:
SAFARI-BLACK: CHINO CALIFORNIA MEAT RECALL- THE LARGEST IN US HISTORY - GO VEG!
It(persuction comes from all races) belongs to no one race. Veganism in the African community is just as ALIEN as any other place , the idea of dodging greezy pigs with worms throughout the entire body is harder to digest than someone partaking in cocaine Lines. Bad diets stem from slavery when slaves were fed scrapes and being a creative race of people they put them scraps in stews with greens and other stuff. This poor availabilty to healthy food became habit which became tradition. To be continued....

SAVE DARFUR - GENOCIDE AWARENESS WEEK!
With the unfortunate circumstances having taken place in Darfur, the Mighty Mic group has taken it upon themselves to create a campaign surrounding the Darfur Genocide. For the upcoming Mighty Mic Human Rights Awareness Concert later this month, Twelve Bar and their “It’s All Love” approach to their trade were chosen to create a commemorative t-shirt for the event with 100% of all proceeds donated to mobile clinics set up in refugee camps for Darfurian refugees. The t-shirt features Twelve Bar’s iconic heart logo with pictures of Darfurian children seen inside. Mighty Mic represents a 9-day event which will take place at UCLA within the Westwood Campus. The event will be further filled with Genocide Awareness Week and a concert. The group itself was created on the basis of providing social justice and human rights. This year’s concert artists include Ok Go, Zion I, rock & Roll and Rhymefest while the t-shirts will be available for sale exclusively at the concert and through Mighty Mic. REAL SOON ITS COMING REAL SOON
JEAN GRAE QUITS HIP HOP !!
Jean Grae Quits Rapping
It is no secret that the hip hop game is a grueling profession to attempt to earn a living from. No emcee exemplifies that more than Jean Grae who has been grinding on the underground rap scene for years releasing a number of critically acclaimed albums including her most highly touted “This Week”. Jean Grae has been featured in numerous Hip Hop and alternative mags and has even graced the cover of URB Magazine. However, it seems that Hip Hop has taken it’s tole on Jean and she has decided to leave the game according to her personal blog on myspace. Jean writes “I will always love what I consider to be true hip hop music… from the bottom of my soul. I hope you will continue to distinguish those who are contributors to the evolution of Hip Hop and other black music as both an auditory stimulation and a culture, taking care that they are put in a position to do so.”
The Brooklyn, New York emcee who was born in Cape Town South Africa signs off by saying “Enjoy…see y’all around. It’s been amazing. Thank you again” Grae also changed her myspace profile photo to the image you see here where she is obviously kissing us all goodbye. All the best to you Jean Grae and thank you for the great music!
